HISTORY OF THE CHURCH IN BOGUSZYCE

Evangelical pastors and Catholic priests

For nearly four and a half centuries, clergy of two denominations served at the church in Boguszyce. From the Reformation until 1945, the church was served by Evangelical pastors. After World War II, the church returned to the Catholic community, and in 1957 a Roman Catholic parish was established.

The chronology below was compiled from a list of people associated with the Evangelical parish of Bogschütz. Where dates are uncertain, the term “from” has been retained because the source does not provide the end of the term of office.

EVANGELICAL PASTOR

Suantomir Paritius

Born on 21 September 1538. He had previously been associated with Smogorzów. In 1566 he took charge of the parish in Boguszyce; later he served, among other places, in Kowalowice, Pontowice and Minkowice. He died in 1613.

Georgius Stengel

Recorded as pastor in Boguszyce in 1591. A year later he moved to Grabowno Wielkie, then served in Twardogóra and Wszechświęte.

Wenceslaus Sudorinus (Poznoy)

He took office in Boguszyce in 1592. After completing his ministry there, he was associated with Wszechświęte.

He came from Gdańsk. From 1596 he served in Boguszyce, then became pastor in Wszechświęte and later a deacon in Bierutów.

A clergyman from Wrocław. He served as pastor in Boguszyce for about twenty-four years.

Jacob Bogen

Born in 1612 in Ludgierzowice. In 1640 he took charge of the parish in Boguszyce, and in 1643 returned to his home village. He died a year later.

Martin Götzkius

Born in 1602 in Bytom in Silesia. He had previously served as pastor in Brzezinka and Miodary. In 1644 he became the successor in Boguszyce; the date on which his ministry ended remains unknown.

Samuel Scultetus

Born on 4 December 1621 in Dziadowa Kłoda into a pastor's family. He studied in Frankfurt an der Oder. From 1647 he was pastor in Boguszyce, where he died on 1 February 1688.

Valentinus Scultetus

Born on 24 January 1662 in Boguszyce, the son of the previous pastor. He studied in Wittenberg. He succeeded his father as pastor and died in Boguszyce on 4 March 1700.

Christian Agricola

Born on 18 August 1667 in Bierutów. He was a cantor and teacher, and on 17 July 1700 became pastor in Boguszyce. In 1704 he moved to Wszechświęte. He died in 1736.

Paul Bornag

Born on 26 December 1674, he came from the territory of what was then Hungary. He took office in Boguszyce on 19 September 1704. Later he was associated with the Church of Our Lady and St George's Church in Oleśnica and became a court preacher. He died in 1737.

Daniel Caspar Vogt

He came from Wrocław. He had previously been a preacher at St Salvator's Church. In 1719 he took charge of the parish in Boguszyce and remained in office until his death in 1735.

Johann Georg Heller

Born on 6 May 1703. In 1735 he became pastor in Boguszyce, and in 1742 moved to Ciepłowody, where he later served as senior pastor. He died in 1784.

Christoph Michaelis

Born on 5 December 1714. He had previously been a field preacher. From 1742 he was pastor in Boguszyce, and from 1750 a deacon in Oleśnica.

Johann Christoph Jäckel

Born in 1720. He had previously served as a prison chaplain in Wrocław. After two years of ministry in Boguszyce, he became a deacon in Oława. He died in 1758.

Carl Andreas Feist

He came from Wrocław. He became pastor in Boguszyce in 1752 and remained in office until his death in 1754.

Johann Christian Siebert

Born on 23 July 1722 in Oleśnica. He studied in Oleśnica, Jena and Frankfurt. At first he assisted the ailing Pastor Feist, and after Feist's death he took over the parish. He died on 2 January 1794.

Karl Friedrich Kühnel

Born on 5 June 1752 in Wilhelminenort. Among other roles, he served as a ducal tutor to pages, vice-rector of a seminary and clergyman in Brzezinka. In 1794 he took charge of the parish in Boguszyce. He died on 20 January 1814.

EVANGELICAL PASTOR

Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Vetter

Born in 1780 in Bierutów. He was a catechist, clerical assistant, subdeacon and teacher at a girls' institute. In 1814 he became pastor in Boguszyce. He died on 2 May 1823, leaving seven children.

Karl Wilhelm Gottlieb Leehr

Born in 1785 in Oleśnica, the son of a pastor. He studied in Frankfurt an der Oder and was a catechist and deacon in Oleśnica. In 1823 he took charge of the parish in Boguszyce and remained there until his death on 11 November 1851.

Johann Alexander Albert Glotz

Born on 31 August 1818 in Szlichtyngowa, the son of a cantor. He was educated in Głogów and studied in Wrocław. Ordained on 18 August 1852; he retired in 1884.

Gottfried Martin Adolf Kühn

Born on 26 August 1844 in Bobrowice. He studied in Wrocław and served as a vicar and pastor in other Silesian localities. He took charge of the parish in Boguszyce on 1 October 1884. In 1906-1907 he deputized for the superintendent. He retired in 1914.

Werner Hermann Julius Siegmund von Rotenhan

Born on 25 October 1880 in Bavaria. He studied in Geneva, Erlangen, Greifswald and Leipzig. After ordination he served in Złoty Stok, and in 1914 took up his post in Boguszyce. In 1923 he moved to St Elizabeth's Hospital in Berlin. He died in 1940.

Ewald Karl Treutler

Born on 25 August 1887 and ordained on 25 March 1914. Before Boguszyce he served in Kainowe. After completing his local ministry, he was pastor in Rothkirch from 1933 to 1945.

Born on 8 November 1904 in Gebhardsdorf and ordained on 23 March 1933. He took office in Boguszyce on 1 May 1934 and served until the end of World War II. In 1946 he was assigned to Klein Priebus.

From 1 February 2026, Fr. Sławomir Świder has served as the current parish priest of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boguszyce. His appointment from 2026 is confirmed by the official register of the Archdiocese of Wrocław.
