Neue Apothekerei
In historical sources, Boguszyce appears not only as a rural place, but also as a leisure destination. Of particular importance was the area known as Aptekarska, whose name was associated with its owner — a pharmacist from Oleśnica.
This was where Neue Apotheke operated — a venue located on the road from Oleśnica to Boguszyce. It was a place for meetings, walks, music and Sunday leisure. For townspeople, the area may have served as a suburban garden, restaurant and entertainment hall all in one.
Suburban leisure
Neue Apotheke was a place people could visit from Oleśnica for a walk, a meal or a social gathering. Old postcards show a garden, guests seated at tables and the atmosphere of summer leisure outside the town.
Hall and performances
The building housed a hall where concerts, dance evenings and performances were organised. Surviving advertisements from 1883 mention, among other things, vocal and instrumental performances as well as dances.
Map of memory
On old maps, the name Neue Apotheke appears as a separate point in the landscape. Today it is a trace of a place that connected the village, the town, entertainment and local history.
Café, garden and entertainment hall
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, suburban venues of this kind were an important part of social life. They were more than just restaurants. They were places where people met after a walk, listened to music, joined in dances and festivities, and sometimes watched theatrical performances.
Neue Apotheke fitted precisely this model. Surviving materials indicate that concerts, dances, stage performances and family gatherings took place here. For children, a carousel may have been an attraction; for adults — music, the garden and the chance to spend an afternoon outside the town.
This part of the history of Boguszyce is particularly interesting because it shows the village from a different perspective: not only as a place to live and work, but also as a space for leisure, culture and entertainment.
Traces on maps and posters
The former Neue Apotheke is remembered above all through old postcards, fragments of maps and newspaper advertisements. From them, we can reconstruct the image of a place that attracted visitors with music, a garden and the atmosphere of Sunday leisure.
- the name of the place was written as Neue Apotheke,
- a mill stood nearby, along with the road layout visible on old maps,
- concerts and dances were held at the venue,
- postcards show the garden, hall, carousel and visitors.
Printed pages of history
On 4 January 1862, the first issue of the newspaper „Lokomotive an der Oder”. It appeared every other day and for decades documented life in Oleśnica and the surrounding localities.
It is in newspapers like these that we now find small advertisements that restore the memory of places such as Neue Apotheke. An announcement of a concert, dance evening or theatrical performance allows us to see Boguszyce not only as a village on the road to Oleśnica, but also as a place of meetings, music and leisure.
The publishing tradition of Oleśnica was older than the „Lokomotive” itself. As early as 1712, one of the first local periodicals was published here: „Miscellanea litteraria de quibusdam ineditis historiae Silesiacae scriptoribus ac operibus specimen”. Its title may be translated as „Literary miscellany concerning selected unpublished authors and works on the history of Silesia”.
